Woman Punched, Slashed and Robbed at Random in Subway: NYPD

A woman was punched, slashed and robbed in random rush hour attack on a subway in Brooklyn, police said.

The 51-year-old woman was riding the A train near the Nostrand Avenue station in Bedford-Stuyvesant around 6 p.m. Wednesday when a man approached her.

Police said the man punched her in the face and slashed her with an unknown object, cutting her from ear to cheek. He then stole her cell phone and took off when the subway doors opened.

The attack was unprovoked, according to police.

According to witnesses, blood was streaming down the woman's face as she was being helped from the subway into an ambulance.

"I seen her when they took her out of there," David, a witnesses who saw the victim, said. "They had wrapped her up. It was all messed up."

The woman was taken to Kings County Hospital. Her condition was unknown Wednesday evening.

NYPD officers searched the platform area trying to find the suspect, who was caught on a surveillance camera going through the turnstile.

Police say they believe the attacker is in his 30s and has a beard.
