1,000 NYC Airport Workers Prepare to Strike

More than 1,000 airport workers -- including security guards, baggage handlers and wheelchair attendants -- are getting ready to strike at JFK and LaGuardia airports, their union, Service Employees International Union (SEIU), said in a release.

The workers, who do subcontracted work for Delta, British Airways and United, say their subcontractor, Aviation Safeguards, illegally threatened them and violated their rights after they organized for higher wages and benefits. The workers are demanding a $15 per hour wage.

Workers will hold a strike vote on Monday and are expected to announce when they will go on strike Tuesday, the union said.
