Key Moments From Trump's First State of the Union

Twitter went wild with speculation when first lady Melania Trump showed up for her husband's first State of the Union address in an ivory Christian Dior pantsuit and a creamy-white Dolce and Gabbana blouse.

Some suggested sarcastically her attire was a tribute to Hillary Clinton, her husband's 2016 Democratic opponent, who favors pantsuits. Or, was she honoring the suffragettes, who made white their signature color? Others tweeted that Mrs. Trump looked "divine."

Her suit was in contrast to the black worn by Democratic congresswomen and their allies.

First ladies typically get everyone's attention when they enter the chamber for their husbands' addresses. But Tuesday marked the first time Mrs. Trump was seen in public with her husband since The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this month that in 2016, Trump's lawyer paid porn star Stormy Daniels $130,000 to keep quiet about an affair she said she had with the future president. Daniels on Tuesday issued a statement denying the affair happened, though she was more cagey about that denial in an appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!"

After the report, the couple's anniversary passed without public comment. Mrs. Trump abruptly canceled plans to accompany her husband to Davos, Switzerland.

With all eyes on her, a poised Mrs. Trump took her seat in the gallery above the packed House moments before the president's speech. She had traveled to the Capitol separately from her husband after holding White House and Capitol receptions for her guests.

Last year, President and Mrs. Trump traveled to the speech together.

Mrs. Trump did not react as Trump began his speech with an acknowledgement of "the first lady."

Later, the White House said Melania Trump rode away from the Capitol in the same car as her husband.
