Brother of Man Stabbed to Death After Warning Wrong-Way Driver: β€˜He Wasn't Just My Brother, But My Best Friend'

A young man stabbed to death after trying to warn a wrong-way driver in Mayfair has been identified by police as 21-year-old Thomas Ewing.

Neighbors said Ewing was outside his house on Revere Street near Cottman Avenue about 2:50 a.m. Saturday when someone drove down the one-way block the wrong way. Ewing called out to the driver, neighbors said. The vehicle then stopped on the block and a passenger got out and stabbed Ewing in the chest, right shoulder and stomach, according to police and neighbors.

Ewing died on the sidewalk as the car fled.

Police did not have a description available of the car or its occupants on Sunday, as Ewing's friends and family took to his Facebook page to mourn him. According to his Facebook, he studied criminal justice at Community College of Philadelphia and worked as a delivery driver for GrubHub.

Christopher Ewing described his older brother as a funny and loving young man, telling NBC10, "He wasn't just my brother, but my best friend, too."

"He's been there for me just as much as I was for him. I loved him so much, but I was stupid and never said it to him, especially during those awkward teen years," Christopher Ewing wrote in a message to NBC10.

In an eerie coincidence, Christopher Ewing said, his brother joked about death the last time they saw each other.

"The last time I saw him was 11 o'clock on Friday night. He came in for a pit stop and said, 'I love you guys' on the way out. I was the only one who didn't say it [back]. He turned to me and said, 'Are you sure you don't want to say it? You know, in case I die,'" the younger brother recalled. "I just turned to him and smiled ... I know that he knows I love him. I just want to say I'm sorry, Thomas. I love you with all of my heart and I'll never forget you."
