California Man Faces Animal Cruelty Charges in SF After Throwing Chihuahua Down Trash Chute

Police have arrested Ronald Jones who now faces felony and misdemeanor charges for animal cruelty and abandonment of an animal

A four-month-old Chihuahua is on the rebound after he was thrown into a trash chute.

San Francisco Animal control was notified by a janitor after he found a puppy in a dumpster where she spent four days in the bin.

"Her leg was so badly broken, it had to be amputated," said Virginia Donohue, director for the Animal Care and Control.

Rocky was not only cared for by Rebecca Fenson, the investigating officer from animal control, but she adopted Rocky.

"She’s active, she’s energetic, she’s lively, and she is adapting very quickly," Fenson said.

Police have arrested Ronald Jones who now faces felony and misdemeanor charges for animal cruelty and abandonment of an animal. Jones appeared in court Friday and pleaded not guilty.

"Anybody who would commit such a crime obviously, it’s not appropriate — and we won’t stand for it," said Max Szabo from the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office.

As for Rocky, she is now recovering in her new home after having her leg amputated, and now getting a second chance at life.

"I know Rocky’s story, I know what she went through, and it’s great to be able to provide a loving home that she deserves," Fenson said.
