Hundreds of Coffee Cans Wash Up on Space Coast Beach

Hundreds of sealed coffee cans have washed ashore a beach along the Space Coast and officials believe they may be from missing containers that fell off a barge last weekend.

The yellow, Cafe Bustelo coffee cans and vacuum-packed coffee bricks dotted the beach in Indialantic Tuesday.

The U.S. Coast Guard was investigating if they came from a barge ship that lost containers between Cape Canaveral and Palm Beach last weekend.

The Coast Guard says as many as 25 containers fell overboard, including one that contained batteries that have corrosive material that can result in chemical burns to the skin.

Mariners and beachgoers are urged to not approach or open any containers in the water or on shore and can report found containers to 1-800-424-8802.

The barge Columbia Elizabeth currently is at the Port of Palm Beach.
