Woman Gives Would-Be Rapist $20 Not to Hurt Her: NYPD

Police are searching for a man they say approached a woman walking on a Brooklyn street and groped and threatened to rape her until she pleaded with him and withdrew cash from an ATM to send him away.

The 24-year-old woman was walking near Leonard and Bayard streets just before 11:30 p.m. Saturday when the man ran up to her, grabbed her around the neck and fondled her, police said.

The attacker told the woman he was going to have sex with her, and the woman pleaded with him and offered him money to not harm her, according to police.

The man agreed, and the two went to a nearby ATM, where the victim withdrew $20 and gave it to the suspect, who ran away.

Surveillance video released by police showed the attacker as he followed the woman to the ATM.

The victim declined medical attention at the scene.
