The mayor of Temixco, Mexico, was shot and killed Saturday, the day after she took office, NBC News reported.
Gisela Mota, a member of the leftist Party of the Democratic Revolution, was formally installed as mayor on Friday. According to a newspaper in Mexico City, four armed gunmen attacked Mota at her home.
Temixco has a population of 100,000 and is located about 60 miles south of Mexico City.
The attorney general's office did not immediately return calls seeking more information about Mota's death.
