Authorities say a central Florida man accidentally ran over his 18-month-old son while going to the store for milk.
Polk County Sheriff's deputies say the boy had apparently walked outside before 34-year-old Cesar Resendez got into his truck on Monday night. He told authorities he didn't know he hit the boy until he got home a few minutes later and saw his wife holding the child.
The Ledger of Lakeland reports the child had severe head trauma.
Resendez and his wife put the boy in the truck and started driving to a hospital. They flagged down two sheriff's deputies along the way. The deputies performed CPR until rescue crews arrived, but the boy did not survive.
No charges are pending.
