Dog Thrown Out Window of Moving Car on Long Island

A young pit bull is recovering from head trauma after it was thrown out the window of a moving car on Long Island, officials say, and a $2,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the abuser.

Chief Roy Gross of the Suffolk SPCA said a witness reported the "friendly, 3- to 4-year-old" male dog was thrown from the driver's side passenger window of a dark four-door pickup truck around 9 p.m. Wednesday near the Mastic Beach Post Office.

The dog hit the ground, then turn and ran toward the vehicle it had been thrown from, the witness said. The witness stopped to see if the dog was OK and the animal jumped in the witnesses' car.

The dog was stressed, suffered head trauma and had healed scars on its face, authorities say, and it may have been used as a bait dog in dogfighting. It was wearing a black collar and is housebroken.

Anyone with information about the pup is asked to call the Suffolk County SPCA at 631-382-7722.
