‘He Just Picked the Wrong Lady to Stop That Night': Ex-Oklahoma Cop's Rape Victims Speak Out

Jannie Ligons filed a police complaint and then called a local TV station to share her experience, triggering an investigation that led to charges against a "serial rapist with a badge."

The Oklahoma grandmother whose refusal to stay silent led to the conviction of a police officer for multiple rapes said Friday that "he just picked the wrong lady to stop that night."

"He did things to me that I didn't think a police officer would do," Jannie Ligons said about Daniel Hoytzclaw, a former Oklahoma City police officer charged with raping 13 African-American women while on patrol.

Ligons, speaking with other victims one day after Hotzclaw's conviction, said she feared for her life during the attack. She thanked God for letting her live to tell her story.

Ligons' lawyer Benjamin Crump called her a hero and slammed Hotzclaw as a "serial rapist with a badge."

Holtzclaw was found guilty Thursday of 18 counts involving eight of the women, and acquitted on charges involving five other women, according to The Associated Press.

Ligons had reported her attack to police then to a local television station, which eventually led more women to come forward.
