New Confederate Monument Goes Up in Alabama

The monument was unveiled on private land just 15 days after a woman was killed during a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia

Though some Confederate monuments are coming down across America, a new one was unveiled in Alabama on Sunday, NBC News reported.

Hundreds of people attended the unveiling of the small monument for "Unknown Alabama Confederate Soldiers" at Confederate Veterans Memorial Park, on private land in the town of Brantley.

The site's owner and developer, David Coggins, said he "had some concerns" about the timing, 15 days after a woman was killed and others were injured when a car plowed into a group of counter-protesters at a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, which was called to protest the removal of a Confederate statue.

However, Coggins told NBC affiliate WSFA of Montgomery the timing was a coincidence and that "our intentions are good."
