Christmas Eve Shooting Kills Infant

A county coroner in central Pennsylvania says an infant died after a Christmas Eve shooting.

A bullet discharged from a family member's firearm and struck a 2-month-old baby at the Countryside Apartment Complex on the 2100 block of Old Philadelphia Pike in Lancaster shortly before 2:30 p.m., according to East Lampeter Township Police.

The infant was resuscitated on the way to Lancaster General Hospital but was later declared dead.

Lancaster County Coroner Dr. Stephen Diamontoni declined to provide additional details because police are still investigating the shooting, but said an autopsy is scheduled for Thursday morning.

Officials said no immediate charges were expected to be filed and the family has been cooperative.

No names were released and the circumstances of the incident remain under investigation.
