A man shot to death a woman in a Loop storefront in what police have described as a murder-suicide that was sparked by domestic incident.
Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said the two were a former couple that was going through domestic-related issues at the time of the shooting.
The woman, who is believed to be in her late 20s, was working at a downtown AmeriCash Loans store near Van Buren and Wells streets, when, at around 2:30 p.m. her ex-boyfriend came into the business and began shooting, police said.
When police arrived, they found the bodies of a man and woman inside the business. The Cook County Medical examiner pronounced both victims dead on arrival.
The woman was found shot to death by a gun that police believe belonged to her ex-boyfriend, who had a concealed carry license. Investigators recovered the weapon from the scene.
The man died by a single gunshot wound to the head, according to police.
After reviewing the store’s surveillance cameras, police confirmed the double-shooting was a murder-suicide inside the business. Witnesses near the store were still shaken up from the unexpected broad daylight shooting in the busy neighborhood.

One woman said she was downtown to do some banking when she heard the shots fired.
“I heard, ‘Bam-bam! Bam-bam!’” she said. “Four shots fired. I’m shaken. It’s scary, there’s still two dead inside.”
Detectives are not releasing the identity of the victims as they continue the investigation.
