4 Dead in Small Plane Crash Near Lake Clear in NY

Four people were killed when a small plane crashed about a half-mile northwest of the Adirondack Airport in Lake Clear, New York state police said.

The aircraft was destroyed and the four dead were located among the wreckage, state police said Saturday. Their identities have not been released. Authorities were notified of the downed civilian aircraft at about 6:30 p.m. Friday. State police said the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration were en route.

Officials didn't know the cause of the crash, and the type of plane wasn't released. The FAA said it was investigating; the NTSB didn't immediately return a message.

The regional airport is located in Northern New York in the Adirondacks. State police asked witnesses of the crash to call 518-897-2000.
