3 Teens Killed After SUV Falls from Highway Overpass

Three North Texas teens were killed Saturday after their car fell more than 60 feet from a highway overpass onto a parking lot below, police say.

According to Sgt. Lonny Haschel, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety, troopers responded to the crash on President George Bush Turnpike near the Highway 75 overpass in Richardson just before 7 p.m.

A 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling east on the turnpike in the right lane when the driver swerved to avoid slowing traffic, crossed all three lanes, and lost control of the SUV, Haschel said.

The Tahoe rolled several times and struck another car before rolling off the highway bridge, falling about 63 feet to a parking lot below.

The driver, identified as 28-year-old Charqual McMath, was able to speak with first responders when they arrived. She was rushed to Medical Center of Plano with non-serious injuries.

Torneki McMath, 19, Tyreana McMath, 12, and Myah Moore, 13, did not survive the crash, Haschel said.

Garland Independent School District administrators said Sunday additional counselors would be available for students when classes resume Tuesday.

Tyreana McMath, friends say, went to Sellers Middle School in Garland. Myah Moore was a student at TW Browne Middle School in the Dallas Independent School District.

There were no injuries in the other car that was struck by the SUV.

The investigation is ongoing.
