12-Year-Old Dies While Waterskiing on NH Lake

The father was briefly distracted when his hat blew off his head. He placed the boat in neutral, but not before it passed over his daughter, causing serious injuries to her torso, police said

A 12-year-old Colorado girl died in a waterskiing accident Monday on a New Hampshire lake after she was run over by a boat that her father was operating, police said.

New Hampshire State Police said the girl was learning to waterski in the area of Cilley's Point on Newfound Lake in Hebron around 8:30 a.m. as family members watched from the towing boat, a 20-foot Cobalt powerboat.

The girl fell, and her father returned to assist her. He was briefly distracted when his hat blew off his head. He placed the boat in neutral, but not before it passed over his daughter, causing serious injuries to her torso.

She was immediately assisted from the water and transported to shore. CPR was initiated, but efforts to revive her were unsuccessful.

The girl was identified as Zoe Anderson, a resident of Highland Ranch, Colorado.

In addition to her father, her mother and 14-year-old sister were also on the boat.

Bridgewater police and fire and Bristol fire all responded to the scene.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact Sgt. Joshua Dirth at 603-293-2037.
