A 6-foot-tall inmate weighing 220 pounds who walked away from a fire crew in Highland Nov. 4 was taken into custody again nearly a week later, the California Department of Corrections said Tuesday.
The inmate, Kent Lesporavsky, 43, was taken into custody without incident as he entered a spa on Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles nearly 75 miles away.
Lesporavsky was working under the State Fire Camp Inmate program on Highway 330 near East Highland Avenue when he walked away in his orange CDC jumpsuit.
He was working to clear a flood channel with a crew when he disappeared.
He will no longer be allowed to take part in the community-based program, and was returned to a secure facility after being taken into custody.
At the time of his escape, he was housed at a minimum security facility in Valyermo serving eight years and eight months for the transportation of marijuana.
His sentence also includes time for evading a peace officer while driving recklessly, and resisting an officer with a threat of violence.

Authorities launched an aerial and ground search, using search dogs to canvass the area once he went missing.
His case will go to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office to determine if escape charges will be added to his sentence.
