Firefighters Rescue Woman Who Fell Down Torrey Pines Cliff

San Diego firefighters rescued a woman who fell down a cliff at Torrey Pines Gliderport Monday.

According to San Diego Fire-Rescue Department (SDFD), the 21-year-old woman landed about 80 feet down the cliff.

Firefighters said the woman was exploring the area with two friends when she slipped.

"The cliffs are very dangerous, especially at night. You complicate things even further with night," said SDFD Battalion Chief Dan Froelich. "Although there appear to be trails out there, those trails are unsafe."

Firefighters used ropes to bring the woman to safety, with the assistance of Copter 2, about 5 a.m. Monday.

The woman suffered minor injuries and was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla.

Froelich said people should not use the trails to access Torrey Pines cliffs, calling it "extremely dangerous."
