Woman Stole Purse, Spent $20K, Cops Say

A manhunt was underway Thursday for a woman wanted for stealing another woman's identity and spending about $20,000, police said.

The victim’s purse containing her identifications, credit cards and checkbook was stolen from her car in May 2008 in Chula Vista.

The suspect went into two Bank of America branches – Balboa Avenue in San Diego and Orange Avenue in Coronado – and withdrew about $3,000 in cash from the victim’s checking account in July 2008, police said.

According to police, the suspect also wrote checks using the victim’s account at a variety of retail stores, bringing the total loss in this case to about $20,000.00.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic female, 25 – 30 years of age, with light brown hair, medium height and build.
