Woman Killed by Oncoming Truck on Silver Strand Highway

A woman exited a car on State Route 75 and was walking across the Silver Strand roadway when she was struck and killed by an oncoming pickup truck Friday, police said.

The 29-year-old woman a passenger in a car that pulled over next to a bike path in northbound lanes of SR-75 near Naval Amphibious Base Coronado at about 12:30 a.m., Coronado Police Department (CPD) Capt. Jesus Ochoa said. 

Witnesses told police she arguing with her boyfriend when she exited the pulled-over vehicle from the passenger's side and began to make her way across the street, Ochoa said.

When she entered southbound lanes of SR-75, she was struck by the oncoming pickup truck. 

Ochoa said officers found the woman dead at the scene.  

Both northbound and southbound lanes were closed for several hours as officers investigated the crash. Northbound lanes were reopened at about 5 a.m. and southbound lanes were reopened about an hour later.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor, Ochoa said.
