A 53-year-old woman passed away after she was injured in car accident on State Route 125 Friday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The woman was traveling north in a Jeep on SR 125 in Chula Vista, just north of H street, at about 4:10 p.m. when for an unknown reason her vehicle veered right and into a guardrail next to an overhead sign pole, a CHP official said.
The collision ended up overturning the Jeep and the vehicle's rooftop struck a metal support.
Once firefighters arrived, the woman was extricated from the wreckage and was transported via Mercy Air and ambulance to Scripps Mercy Hospital where she later died at 8:20 p.m., according to CHP officials.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation and officials have yet to determine whether alcohol was involved.
The woman's identity has yet to be released.
