San Diego County will see light showers Saturday as one of two weak storm systems moves into Southern California, although rainfall will be far less significant than earlier in the week.
Friday was cool and dry but NBC 7 meteorologist Sheena Parveen said the first storm system would push rain clouds into the region overnight.
Parveen said the storm system was expected to break apart before it reached San Diego, meaning showers would be light and scattered Saturday.
NBC 7 Meteorologist Dagmar Midcap said the light showers would begin in the northwest corner of San Diego County around 5 a.m. and then slide across the county to the southeast, exiting the region between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m.
“Winds will be breezy to gusty at times but no [weather] watches, warnings or advisories in effect for San Diego County,” Midcap added.
Temperatures would remain cool throughout the day.
Just before 8 a.m., NBC 7's Brooke Landau was tracking light rain in parts of San Diego's North County, including Oceanside, Encinitas and Escondido. The rain was pushing in an eastward direction, Landau said.
A second similar storm system is expected to arrive by Sunday.
"The bulk of this system is coming in the later afternoon and evening hours," Landau added.
In total, the weekend rain is expected to bring between one-tenth and one-quarter-inch of precipitation to the region each day.
Midcap said snowfall and possibly accumulation of about one to two inches is possible in San Diego’s mountains above 4,500 and 5,000 feet both Saturday and Sunday night.
NBC 7's First Alert Forecast shows temperatures will remain cool in San Diego County next week, with another chance of showers late Wednesday into Thursday.
