SR-76 Multi-Car Wreck Leaves 2 Dead, Another Injured

Two people were killed and another was hospitalized in a multi-car crash on State Route 76 Monday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Several cars were involved in a collision traveling eastbound on SR-76 near E. Vista Way in unincorporated Vista at around 6:30 p.m.

CHP confirmed that two passengers in a Hyundai sedan were killed when a lifted pickup truck rear-ended the car while they were stopped at a traffic light.

Another passenger of the Hyundai was taken to Palomar Hospital with major injuries, CHP said. Two other vehicles were involved in the crash, but no passengers inside of them were injured.

The two left lanes were blocked for more than 4 hours while investigators worked the scene.

Investigators have not determined how the crash happened. Alcohol or drugs are not considered a factor in the crash, CHP said.
