Police say a suspected DUI driver took out a fire hydrant before soaring down a Sorrento Valley embankment Monday night.
The 22-year-old man was driving in the 5600 block of Carroll Canyon Road at about 8:30 p.m. when he hit the hydrant, sending a geyser shooting into the air.
His blue car then continued off the road, rolling far down a hill and into brush.
The man — the only person inside — was able to get himself out of the vehicle, and he sat on a bench next to the car, waiting for emergency responders to arrive. They took him to the hospital for unknown injuries.
San Diego Police are now conducting a DUI investigation, they say.
