Two people suffered serious injuries after a driver suspected of driving under the influence swerved and struck a streetlight pole head-on late Saturday night, police said.
The crash happened at approximately 10:23 p.m. Saturday night on Friars Road near Interstate 15 when a 20-year-old female driver, suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and marijuana, was driving westbound on Friars Road.
Police said that for an unknown reason, the driver swerved to the right and hit a pole, without braking before her impact.
Her 21-year-old passenger, who was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered major head and chest trauma from the impact.
The driver also suffered major trauma.
Both were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police said they will seek a warrant for the drivers arrest. The Traffic Division is investigating.
