2 Families Displaced, Pet Killed in City Heights Apartment Fire: SDFD

Two families were displaced and a pet was killed after an apartment caught on fire in City Heights Tuesday, according to the San Diego Fire Department (SDFD).

The fire started around 4:49 p.m. on the 4100 block of 48th Street just north of University Avenue on the second floor of an apartment building.

NBC 7 chopper video showed heavy smoke rising from the building Tuesday evening.

Captain Joe Amador from the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department says firefighters were able to knock down the fire in about 15 minutes.

According to Captain Amador, the upstairs unit sustained heavy damage and two adults living there were displaced. The first floor unit also had some fire damage and Two adults and two children were displaced.

Red Cross is assisting both families.

SDFD got initial reports that an electrical outlet had caught on fire and there were some popping noises.

But fire investigators are still looking into the cause of the fire.
