Tom Petty might be with us no longer, but that doesn't mean his spirit can't continue to inspire. Case in point, Casbah's Petty: A Tribute to Tom Petty on Saturday, Jan. 6.
All proceeds for this all-star tribute concert will go to benefit MusiCares, a Recording Academy charity that provides a safety net for musicians in need. The charity helps people in the music industry with financial, medical and personal emergencies while focusing its attention on issues that relate to the general welfare of the music community.
Featuring a core band of Timothy Joseph, Andrew McKeag, Mario Rubalcaba, Ben Moore and Chris Torres, the tribute concert will be a night to celebrate the music and legacy of Petty, who died of cardiac arrest on Oct. 2.
Meet the Band: McKeag, who'll be taking the Mike Campbell role, is formerly of Seattle band the Presidents of the United States of America; Rubalcaba has drummed in Rocket From the Crypt, Hot Snakes, Earthless, the Sultans and Off!; and vocalist/guitarist Timothy Joseph, who will assume the mantle of Tom Petty, currently fronts Buckfast Superbee and hosts FM 949's local show ... quite the group of heavy hitters.
Meet the Special Guests: Adding to the star power are special guests Pall Jenkins of Black Heart Procession and Three Mile Pilot; the Schizophonics; the Redwoods' Dani Bell, Matt Molarius and Shelbi Bennett; and Mrs. Henry's Daniel Cervantes, just to name a few. They'll all be playing solo and ensemble iterations from Petty's deep cuts.
So here's your chance to honor one of rock's greatest songwriters with some of San Diego's most successful musicians while giving back to music communities in need.
Tickets are only $12 at the door or $10 online, and all proceeds go directly to MusiCares.
