Thousands Will Run with Torch

Law enforcement officers with agencies all over Southern California will run with the torch for Special Olympics this week

With a motorcycle escort and a few sirens for good measure, law enforcement officers kicked off an annual tradition this morning in Chula Vista.

The Torch Run spans hundred of miles and will pass through several local cities Tuesday and Wednesday this week.

In our county, more than 150 runners will run the torch from Chula Vista all the way north to Orange County. From there, other agencies will pick up the run.

β€œBy the end of the torch run next Friday, we will have about 3,000 officers carry the torch throughout Southern California from San Diego County, San Luis County and Los Angeles County all the way to Call State Long Beach for opening ceremonies June 13,” said Richard Fernandez with the Law Enforcement Torch Run.

It’s a great fundraising event that helps the athletes of the Special Olympics Southern California’s annual Summer Games. Each officer participating in the Torch Run contributes to the local Special Olympics program.
