SUV Overturns in Hit-and-Run Crash on I-15 in City Heights

A man fled on foot Sunday leaving his female passenger behind after hitting an SUV on Interstate 15, causing it to overturn, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. when the man crashed into an SUV on northbound I-15 at the I-805 junction, causing the SUV to overturn and land on southbound I-15, according to Caltrans.

The man was driving erratically, weaving in out of traffic before the crash, said Martha Haro, who was the passenger that was left behind.

"I just remember going in and out of traffic and closing my eyes because I see a car coming close and there was an impact," she said.

Haro did not know the man well, she had just met him Sunday afternoon. He was driving her car because she had a beer. After the crash, she got out of the car and he was gone within seconds.

"I remember getting out of the car I remember looking over there and when I turned around he wasn't there he wasn't there," Haro said. "Even the door, the driver's side door was left open."

The people in the SUV were hurt. Their conditions are unknown at this time.

The crash blocked several lanes of traffic and the I-15 was partially shut down for a time.

There wasn't a lot of details released about the man but the CHP is still looking for him.
