Man Shot in The Head Found Dead in Crashed SUV: CVPD

Chula Vista police are investigating what they are describing as a suspicious death after a man was found dead in his crashed SUV at a storage facility.

Officers were called to the facility north of the intersection of L Street and Industrial Boulevard at 12:50 p.m. and found the man dead with a single gunshot wound to his head.

Investigators believe the man was shot while driving northbound on Industrial somewhere south of the intersection but don't know if the shooting was car-to-car or if someone approached the car and shot him.

The driver went through the intersection at L Street and into the storage facility's parking lot, then crashed into a gate at the end of the lot.

Police said no weapon was found in the vehicle.

Investigators said they received varying reports from witnesses nearby, including some who thought the driver was intoxicated because he was slumped over and driving at a slow rate of speed. They told police they were honking at the driver as he approached the intersection and followed him to the location of the crash.

The identity of the man was not released, but police said the victim appeared to be in his 40s or 50s.

There is no motive in the shooting at this time.

Police said they were reviewing surveillance video in the area.

No other details were given on the incident.
