Suspicious Death Reported in Spring Valley

Investigators looking for multiple suspects

Deputies in Spring Valley came across a man lying in a driveway who was later pronounced dead by doctors early Friday morning.

Authorities responded to a radio call reporting a suspicious group of men in the 8600 block of Troy Street just before 1 a.m. Friday morning, according to sheriff's deputies.

When they arrived, the man was suffering multiple wounds to his upper body, although officials did not say what kind of wounds.

The victim was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead shortly after. The Medical Examiner identified the victim as 29-year-old El Cajon resident Brian Hammett. The cause of death was not listed.

Detectives believe three men in a light-colored van may be responsible, but the investigation is ongoing.

No witnesses have come forward, although people nearby told investigators that they did not hear any gunshots.

Investigators from the Lemon Grove Sheriff's Station, Homicide Detail, and Sheriff's Crime Lab, as well as the U.S. Border Patrol are participating in this investigation.
