Suspected DUI Crash in North Park Rips Car Into 2 Pieces

A car was torn in two when a suspected drunk driver lost control of his car in North Park, jumped a curb and hit a light pole, San Diego police said.

The 28-year-old driver hit a curb on University Avenue near 33rd Street just before 1 a.m. Wednesday and slammed into a light pole, Officer John Buttle said.

The force of the crash split caused the 2006 Ford Focus to snap in half.

The driver and his passenger were hurt and taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver was suspected of DUI but had not yet been arrested, Buttle said.

No other information was available.
