Big Change for NBC 7 San Diego Anchor Susan Taylor

Longtime anchor at NBC 7 San Diego announces a life-changing decision

NBC 7 San Diego anchor Susan Taylor announced this week that she is ready to start a new chapter in her life and will step down from the anchor desk after 15 years to spend more time with family.

“After a lot of long talks with myself and my family, I decided not to extend my contract here at NBC 7,” Taylor said to her co-workers Tuesday. “This was 100% my decision. The station offered me a fair, generous contract that would have had me here for years to come.”

However, Taylor told her colleagues at the downtown news station that during the last several weeks, she had a change of heart.

“For the past 15 years, I’ve been working until midnight Monday through Friday. And, given that schedule, my family has not received the attention they need and deserve. So I’m going to seek out a life that puts me more in sync with my husband and our son,” Taylor said.

Greg Dawson, VP of News, lauded Taylor on her commitment to the station and its employees.

“Susan is one of the most committed people I’ve known in this business. She comes in early, is always fully prepared, and gives 100 percent in every newscast,” Dawson said.

“She is also continuously out in the public speaking to groups or helping with major fundraisers for organizations like Making Strides Against Breast Cancer or the San Diego Alzheimer’s Association – two of her passions.”

Taylor’s last day hasn’t been determined but the station said she will stay a part of the NBC 7 San Diego family working on special community projects.

The station will take some time to decide who will take Taylor's place.

Taylor has been on the front lines of the Persian Gulf War, the O.J. Simpson trial, the Palestinian uprising in Israel, the Super Bowl and Haitian riots in Miami, the downfall of Panamanian leader Manuel Noriega, the Rodney King Civil rights trial, numerous wildfires including the 2003 and 2007 wildfires in San Diego, the Northridge Earthquake, and returned with troops from Iraq as they sailed into San Diego Bay on-board the final voyage of the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Constellation before it was decommissioned.

Taylor anchors the 4 and 4:30 pm newscasts with Catherine Garcia and anchors the 5, 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts with Mark Mullen.
