The pier in Ocean Beach has been closed since it was damaged by high surf two weeks ago and there is no estimate for when it will be repaired, city officials told NBC 7.
The Ocean Beach Pier was missing a significant chunk of the railing, as shown in video captured from SkyRanger 7.
Waves reported between 10 and 12 feet caused significant damage to the railing and the wood paneling of the pier, closing it to pedestrians.
On Thursday, Alec Phillipp with the Public Works Department said city crews were still assessing the pier and clearing away damaged material.
"We don’t have any estimates as of now, as we have to fully assess the extent of the damage before beginning repairs," Phillipp said.
High surf and winter storms have slowed the inspection process and the three storms expected to arrive over the next several days may slow work further, he said.
The pier remains closed until repairs are complete, a big bummer for Mary Duty who came to the beach from Spring Valley.
"I think it's more disappointing that you can't walk on the pier," Duty said.
