Stolen Car Plows Into CHP Cruiser

Two people are in custody after a high-speed chase in North County.

The pursuit started around 3 a.m when the Honda Accord was seen flying down southbound on Interstate 15 at state Route 76 at more than 100 mph, officers said. Officers with the California Highway Patrol gave chase, following the car off the freeway and onto surface streets, where it entered a Vista neighborhood.

"As the officer was chasing the stolen vehicle, they came around the curb and rammed into the patrol car," said Oceanside police Officer T. Uemura.

After the crash, the Honda continued up a narrow street until the driver lost control at Hillside Terrace, not far from Vista Way.  The car came to a crashing stop in a resident's front yard.

Inside the car, investigators found other stolen items, although they wouldn't specify exactly what they were.

The driver is now at the Vista detention facility. The passenger, 17, was taken to juvenile hall.
