SACRAMENTO -- A state leader says she's hoping for a federal bailout to close the state's ballooning budget gap.
Assembly Speaker Karen Bass is hoping for a savior in the form of a federal bailout for California. Bass said she wants to avoid cuts to education, health care and other vital programs to help solve the state's $11 billion budget shortfall.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is proposing a 50-50 split between tax increases and program cuts, but Bass said it should be more like 50-50 split between tax increases and federal help.
