Teen Suspect Taken Into Custody After Standoff in Golden Hill

A teenager was taken into custody after barricading himself inside a Golden Hill residence, prompting a response from a SWAT team.

The 17-year-old surrendered after several hours in a standoff with San Diego Department (SDPD) officers near 30th and E Street.

SDPD said an investigative unit was in the area searching for the teen who had an outstanding detention order.

When they located him at about 8 p.m., SWAT was called for backup because they believed he may have had access to a weapon, SDPD said.

A portion of the roadway was blocked as a swarm of officers handled the situation. Officers used flashbang grenades and other negotiation techniques in an attempt to get him to exit the building.

It was not clear what the suspect was wanted for or what charges he faces.
