Three people were hospitalized after a car crash in Mira Mesa early Saturday morning.

Alcohol was a factor in the collision, the San Diego Police Department said.

A 73-year-old man was driving in a Toyota Venza with his 64-year-old wife when they were struck by a Ford Escape, police said.

The 33-year-old Escape driver was heading north on Camino Santa Fe when he collided with the couple on Mira Mesa Boulevard, SDPD said.

The older man’s hip and ribs were fractured, police said. The woman was treated for internal injuries.

The 33-year-old suffered cuts on his face.

Police believed the Escape driver may have been under the influence of alcohol.

The crash happened just before 4 a.m.

SDPD Traffic Division is currently investigating.
