Somebody REALLY Hates School

This school bus was out of service for five years, but that didn't stop some genius from torching it overnight.

The fire was reported just after 12:30 a.m. Thursday morning at the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District Transportation Center on Conrad Drive, near Campo Road in Casa de Oro. When fire crews arrived, the bus was in flames. It took them 10 minutes to knock the fire down. Another, smaller bus was also damaged by the fire.

Bomb-arson investigators are trying to figure out who started the blaze.

Transportation Director Craig Wood said the 1984 bus was out of service for five years. He said it was being used for storage. Wood, who has been with the district for 21 years, said the fire was not caused by mechanical problems.

Wood said the center has had problems in the past with homeless people and children who have broken into the property.
