The number of adult smokers in the state has hit an all-time low, according to a new report.
Last year, 11.9 percent of Californian adults smoked – down one percentage point from 2009. The results were announced by the California Department of Public Health last month.
California is one of only two states to reach the nation’s target for reducing the number of adult smoking prevalence rate to 12 percent.
Smoking among youngsters has decreased as well since 2009. Last year, 13.8 percent of high school students smoked and 4.8 percent of middle school students smoked.
Rates are collected from the Centers for Disease Control’s Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System.
