Smoke Reported Inside Sheraton Hotel Near San Diego Airport

A fire broke out Wednesday inside a hotel across the street from San Diego International Airport where guests were temporarily evacuated.

Guests were evacuated for several minutes before they were allowed to return to the hotel lobby.

No injuries were reported at this time.

San Diego Fire-Rescue crews were called to the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina on Harbor Island Drive just before 1 p.m.

Smoke was reported on multiple floors of the hotel at 1380 Harbor Island Drive, police officials said.

Guests and employees were told to leave the building while firefighters worked to find the source of the smoke.

The fire was determined to be on the first-floor elevator and was extinguished by 2:30 p.m., an SDFD spokesperson said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The hotel is located south of North Harbor Drive and Terminal 1 of the San Diego International Airport.
