U.S. Forest Service firefighters quickly jumped on a small brush fire near westbound I-8 and Japatul Valley Road in Alpine.
The fire on a ridge along the highway was said to be holding at 8 acres with a moderate rate of spread. Previously, Cal Fire officials estimated the acreage at 15.
No evacuations were issued.
Two vehicles collided along the stretch of I-8 where there were fire engines parked. One passenger was receiving medical aid.
The highway was closed due to the accident.
