A proposed noise ordinance is not sitting well with off-road enthusiasts. Changes would establish noise levels in residential, commercial and agricultural areas for dune buggies, ATV's and dirt bikes.
Under the proposed ordinance noise would have to be no louder than 82 decibels during the day, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Eighty-two decibels is sometimes described as the sound of a loud conversation between two people.
Off-roaders say the proposed rules are too strict and will prevent them from playing in their own back yard. They also charge that off road vehicles account for only 5 per cent of noise complaints.
The County Board of Supervisors needs to sign off on the ordinance before it takes effect.
