Shake Shack Debuts Mission Valley Eatery

The Mission Valley eatery is the second Shake Shack location to open in San Diego this year – the first opened in October at Westfield UTC mall

It’s a Christmas miracle: Shake Shack will open its second location in San Diego Thursday, this time in Mission Valley.

The cult favorite burger chain’s new location at 675 Camino De La Reina is the second Shake Shack to debut in San Diego in as many months. In late October, Shake Shack opened up shop at Westfield UTC to long, hungry lines – standard for the chain known to create fervor among burger enthusiasts.

According to Eater San Diego, the newest location fills a free-standing building at The Millenium in Mission Valley, a mixed-use project that includes a public plaza, retail and residential spaces.

The Mission Valley spot offers the Shack’s classic menu, plus some San Diego-centric extras like craft beer (Modern Times Beer, Pizza Port Brewing Company and Stone Brewing can be found on the handles).

There are also treats featuring sweet ingredients from local dessert shops, such as the “Pie Oh My,” which combines vanilla custard with a slice of pie from Betty’s Pie Whole in San Diego’s North County. For each one of those treats sold at the Mission Valley location, Shake Shack will donate 5 percent of proceeds to the local organization, I Love a Clean San Diego.

Shake Shack began in New York City in 2004 as a humble little food cart. In 13 years, Shake Shack has become a global brand, expanding to 18 states across the U.S. and 11 countries worldwide.

The company is known for its classic menu of high-quality Angus hamburgers including the "ShackBurger," a single or double cheeseburger topped with lettuce, tomato and beloved ShackSauce, and the "SmokeShack," a single or double cheeseburger topped with Applewood smoked bacon, chopped cherry peppers and ShackSauce.

Fans also flock to Shake Shack for its crinkle-cut French fries (you can top them with cheese and/or bacon, because dreams really do come true), Flat-Top Hot Dogs, hand-spun milkshakes and frozen custard concretes featuring sweet treats mixed in.

The Mission Valley location will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., but hours will be modified for the upcoming holidays. It's open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve and closed on Christmas Day. New Year’s Eve hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
