Hundreds of thousands of people will be in San Diego this weekend and next for Pride, Comic-Con and Over The Line, making security a top priority for law enforcement.
“You have Pride you have Comic-Con, you have Over The Line. We know how to do that. It’s a time for our city to shine on the national and international stage,” San Diego Mayor Faulconer told NBC 7.
Several law enforcement agencies took part in the Pride Parade Saturday, but many more were on duty watching the crowds for anything suspicious. Some officers were in plain clothes to blend in with the crowd, including several FBI agents.
San Diego Police Chief David Nisleit said his department has trained for all types of emergency scenarios.
“We consider any type of contingency that might come up. We practice for it. We have contingencies for it. And we’re ready for it,” he said. “All the allied agencies loan us officers to make sure [Pride], Comic-Con, Over The Line, all these different events stay safe.”
“I haven't felt unsafe at all. I think they've done a great job organizing,” paradegoer Tiffany Cuellar said.
For Pride, some bars have hired extra staff and are also equipped with metal detectors.

“I can’t say enough about our police department our fire rescue department,” the mayor added. “There’s hundreds of people spending thousands of hours making sure we keep our community safe.”
