Second Drug Tunnel Discovered in Mexico

The smuggling tunnel in Tijuana is the second one discovered in the past 24 hours

The Mexican Army discovered an elaborate drug smuggling tunnel in Tijuana Friday – the second tunnel of its kind discovered in just 24 hours.

According to Mexican authorities, the tunnel leads from Tijuana into the United States but most of the tunnel is Mexican territory.

Approximately 40 tons of marijuana was confiscated from the tunnel Friday.

On Thursday, an unfinished drug smuggling tunnel was discovered nearby, also in Tijuana.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman Lauren Mack told The Associated Press on Thursday that the approximately 220-yard passage was lit and ventilated. However, no drugs were found inside that particular tunnel.

Authorities said Mexican drug gangs have started to dig tunnels in response to tightened security along the border.
