Lifeguards were searching for a possible person in the water Saturday night near Cabrillo National Monument in Point Loma, fire officials said.
The search began around 9 p.m. at Gatchell Road and Woodward Road off Cabrillo Memorial Road, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department (SDFD).
The search came at the request of the Navy, according to the SDFD.
After searching with rescue swimmers and rescue helicopters, lifeguards did not find anyone, SDFD spokeswoman Monica Munoz said.
Lifeguards suspended the search around 10:15 p.m.
