Hours-Long Search for Reported Missing Swimmer

Officials searched overnight and into the early morning for a reported missing swimmer off the coast of Ocean Beach.

At 1:18 a.m., a woman called San Diego Lifeguards to say she had seen a swimmer get into the water, but did not see him come out. The woman waited an hour before calling lifeguards, to see if he would come out. She had a baby in the back of her car, so she may have missed the swimmer coming out of the water. No other witnesses were in the area at the time.

Coast Guard officials searched overnight, looking for the man on land, in the water and from the air.

San Diego Police, Lifeguards and Coast Guard officials searched for another hour at 7 a.m. They will continue searching Monday and trying to find additional accounts of a man seen getting into the water.

No further information was immediately available.
