Seals Finish Road Trip With Tough Loss

San Diego falls at Saskatchewan, now prep for home opener

An expansion team starting its existence with three straight road games is not ideal. All things considered the San Diego Seals handled that situation pretty well.

The National Lacrosse League’s newest team put a scare into the league’s best team. San Diego lost 16-12 in Saskatchewan, the reigning NLL champions who have been to the finals for three years running.

The Seals scored first against the Rush thanks to Garrett Billings. Fresh off the injured-reserve list, Billings got the game’s first goal and then piled on. He scored two goals and had four assists, an impressive outing even for the man with the NLL’s best points-per-game average.

The problem is Saskatchewan has Ben McIntosh, who scores pretty much at will. The Rush forward scored five goals. A year ago he had 46 goals in 18 games so he’s pretty good.

The Seals finish their three-game road trip with a 1-2 record and now the real fun begins. They play their first home game (and they’re the only team in the NLL that has yet to play a home game) at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12,  at Pechanga Arena against the Rochester Knighthawks.
